Of course, if I could, I would give him a tower of healthy cookies...with protein, nutrients, and fiber, instead of a cookie whose main ingredient is sugar, and tastes like artificial flavour IL #B5061 (whatever that is)?

Who says cookie dreams can't come true?  This recipe combines the best of both worlds...an authentic Oreo cookie base with a healthy filling.  The best part....These only have 2 gram of sugar and they've been officially Teen Party Approved!

Healthy Low-Sugar Oreo Cookies

*Recipe by Less Sugar Naturally*
Ingredients for 18-24
Note: I find it easiest to work with making 18 cookies. As you get the technique down you can increase to 24 thinner cookies...if you want ;)

  • 1/2 cup cake & pastry whole wheat flour
  • 3/4 cup all purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup cocoa (dutch processed works best)
  • 1/2 tsp baking soda
  • 1/4 tsp baking powder
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 190 grams of medjool dates, pitted and chopped
  • 1/2 cup melted butter
  • 1 egg
Cream Filling:

1. Preheat oven to 375 degrees.

2. Combine dry ingredients in a bowl and whisk well to combine.  Add to food processor

3. Add chopped dates and pulse until finely combined.

4. Add melted butter and the egg. Pulse until well combined.

Easy Homemade Healthy Oreo Cookies5. Empty the contents onto the counter or a pan. Form into a circle, and split into two parts. Half will be used for tops and half will be used for bottoms.

6. Using the first half, make 18-24 "toppers" by pressing the dough into the silicone molds with a small spatula.  Finish pushing the dough with your fingertips.
***You must use a silicone molds to make the tops.

7. Invert and push out on to cookie sheet.

8. Bake for 5-6 minutes.
***Don't worry if any cookies break in two. It will hold together later when you add the cream filling.

9. While the toppers are baking, press the remaining dough into 18-24 "bottoms".
***You can use a muffin tin for the bottoms as they'll come out easy later on.

10. Bake at 375 degrees for 5-6 minutes. Leave the bottoms in the molds.

11. With a whisk, combine all ingredients for cream filling together.

12. Add some cream filling on top of each cookie.

13. Add toppers and apply slight pressure.

14. Refrigerate or freeze for a couple of hours until hard.

15. Remove from silicone molds or pop them out of the muffin tin and serve.

**Cookies must be stored in the fridge or freezer to prevent the filling from melting at room temperature.
